There’s a song in one of the lesson books that has the title “I Can Do It!” When students come to my studio, my goal is to hear them say this! Once they start lessons with me, I see them become more confident, independent learners.
The reason for this is the way I approach the lesson. During each lesson (beginning level through level 4), the students learn ALL of the assigned songs for the week. Home practice feels easy, because there are few or NO questions. They are learning HOW to practice at the lesson.
When they return the next week, we are able to pass all the songs, and move forward. The result is that students progress faster, and become more confident players.
They become more adventurous when it comes to learning new music! They have more fun with learning!
This translates into staying in lessons longer and a better likelihood that they will play and enjoy music on into adulthood. A parent of one of my students who’s been in lessons for six years says this:
“Lydia found a balance between achieving great results and making lessons enjoyable.”
When students reach the Intermediate/Advanced level, lessons move away from the method books, and into the direction the student wants to take:
- Classical music
- Jazz music
- Pop music
- Church music
These are just a few of the options!
